Little me

That’s me and my handsome dad.  Probably I am three years old. The picture was taken near my block of flats. But now it looks totally different, there is quite big parking.

The only thing that comes to my mind concerning this photo is the fact that every time we(me and my parents and my brother) went for a walk, I only wanted to hold my dad’s hand, not my mom’s. I completely don’t know why.

One day my mom told me a strange story. It was Sunday. The weather was brilliant.  My parents and I went for a walk. I was then three years old, and I decided to collect all cigarettes butts that  were lying in the street. But that’s not the end. While collecting them I put some into my mouth. Fortunately, my parents realized what was going on and stopped me from doing it.

Anyway I was a happy child, and I remember only good moments from my childhood:):)

Look at that face and ears.... :D

Worst Killer Plagues

Having the posibility to change the history a bit, I would certainly change the fate of many people who died because of the worst killer plagues.  I imagine that I am a Time Lord, and by the touch of my sonic screwdriver I can help all innocent people to overcome the disease or simple prevent it from happening.

First of all, I would prevent SMALLPOX from spreading. This disease killed almost 300 million people worldwide in the 20th century. Smallpox is caused by either of two virus variants named Variola major and Variola minor. Its side-effects include the characteristic skin scars, but also blindness and infertility in male survivors.

MALARIA kills about 2 million people per year. It is one of the most common infectious diseases and an enormous public-health problem. Malaria has symptoms of anemia such as light headedness and shortness of breath, as well as other general symptoms like fever, chills, nausea, flu-like illness, and in severe cases, coma and death. Despite efforts to reduce transmission and increase treatment, there has been little change, because many cases occur in rural areas where people do not have access to hospitals or cannot afford health care.

AIDS killed 25 milion people worldwide.  It was first recognized in 1981 and is one of the he most destructive epidemics in recorded history. It is a disease of the human immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Apart from these diseases there are many others that killed many people such as : Cholere, Typhus, Spanish Flu, and Black Death.

Being able to help millions of people with my incredible sonic screwdriver and my brain, I would do everything ranging from finding a vaccine, supporting whole comunities with needed drugs, and fulfilling dreams and desires of all patients. This would not require much effort from me. It would be a pleasure.

Carlos Ruiz Zafon

I’ve become strongly interested in Carloz Riuz Zafon, when I first read his book called: ‘Marina’.It’s a novel about a teenager- Oscar, who is extremely fascinated by the atmosphere that fills the secessionist palace near his boarding school. One day he meets Marina, and the whole story stars.

Carlos Ruiz Zafon was born in Barcelona. He is a Spanish novelist who has lived in Los Angeles since 1993, where he spent a few years writing scripts whilst developing his career as a writer. His first novel (The Prince of Mist, 1993), earned the Edebé literary prize for young adult fiction. He is also the author of three more young adult novels. After that, he decided to publish something for adult readers- he is an author of 3 fantastic novels: The Shadow of the Wind,The Angel's Game, and The Prisoner of Heaven. The last one will soon be available in Poland.

I wait impatiently to buy his last novel: The Prisoner Of Heaven, bacause I've read all of his books, and really want to read this one. And I must say that it would be difficult for me to choose the best of his books, the one that I liked the most.

Learning Foreign Languages.

Today’s post is a reply to an article published in The Observer, concerning the issue of ceasing learning languages.  The article says that languages were removed from the core curriculum. Because of that three-quarters of 14-year-olds are not taking a modern language and the take-up in primary schools is mysteriously delayed.

Because English is a lingua franca,  Americans and British don’t want to learn other languages because they think it is unnecessary. They simply believe that other people around the world would know their language so that there will be no problem in communication.

On the other hand, for some people learning languages is a blessing. Thanks to that they can easily communicate with people from different nationalities when travelling or just when some foreigners ask them about directions. What is more, knowing other languages is useful when it comes to getting to know with others, exchanging and supporting opinions. When you know different languages there is the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and make friends with them, visit each other, and have unforgettable memories.

Knowing languages gives us the opportunity to experiment with the world around us more freely. You can read foreign newspapers, magazines, books, news, or watch foreign television. You can also understand lyrics of your favorite songs.

What is worth mentioning is that in big corporations knowing English as a foreign language is not enough, because employers proceed form the assumption that everybody knows English and it is not a big deal to be able to communicate in that language. That is why, it is extremely important to learn other languages.

Personally, I have a bad experience with learning German, but maybe one day it will change. And I have always wanted to learn Spanish. I believe that learning languages is very important but at the same time can be quite a nice experience.

Walk Off the Earth
Walk off the Earth is a Canadian indie band formed in Burlington, Ontario.
Founded in 2006, the band's first success came from covering the songs of The Gregory Brothers. The video of their cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" featuring The Creepshow's Sarah Blackwood became rapidly popular on YouTube in early 2012, gathering almost 47 million views in 29 days and received positive responses from both Gotye and his co-singer on the song Kimbra.

I found this cover few weeks ago and I really liked it. I recommend watching other videos of this group.
